A Saturday with Caroline, Bird & Bria.

A Saturday with Caroline, Bird & Bria.

Going down memory lane… On the busy Portobello Road.

Oh How times have changed over the years. Horrid Covid has forced us to adapt to life online. So, even though we are no longer at the shop, we still make our graceful appearance with our trusty stall at the Portobello Market.

Good morning Caroline! We are so lucky with the weather today, how are you planning on spending your Saturday?

Best thing to do on a Saturday morning is to rush to the Portobello antique market. As a local I feel I have to do my best to protect it. So many stalls and galleries had to close down… very sad.
My favourite go to stalls are - Peter opposite the Notting Hill Fish Shop, Sandy’s Plates and Porcelain stall round the corner, Admiral Vernon Arcade with antique linen and beautiful treasures.

You have lived in Portobello for the last 30 years, it is safe to say that you are one of the many originals that live here. How has Portobello changed since you first came to the area?

It has changed a lot over the decades, I can’t imagine it without Alan and Lynn’s vegetable stall. I once overheard him talking to another regular and local - apparently she only has her bath with Alan’s Indian mangoes…. Haha.
Oh, and the French cheese man. They couldn’t get round Brexit for a while, and now they are back - what a relief and a real guilty pleasure.
We all protested against the likes of All Saints taking over. It is gone, thank goodness… It is our duty to keep the spirit of Portobello going!!
